PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Mercedes driver testified he didn't see the 6-foot-tall orange rabbit driving a pedicab because he was fumbling for a dropped cell phone.

Pedicab driver Kate Altermatt tells The Oregonian she finds that hard to believe, noting she was wearing a bright orange bunny suit - for Easter - and her Cascadia Pedicab was lit up with reflectors and a blinking red light. She says the crash sent her flying and totaled the pedicab.

She confronted the driver Wednesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

After a daylong trial, Judge Karin Immergut found Edward Cespedes-Rodriguez guilty of hit and run driving for leaving the scene of the crash last April 12.

But Immergut cleared the 34-year-old Portland man of recklessly endangering another person.

Members of the State Board of Elections spoke in a unanimous voice Friday: Mike Easley should be investigated on suspicion of committing crimes while he was governor of North Carolina.

They imposed a $100,000 penalty against his campaign organization, saying the Mike Easley Committee broke laws when Easley took free flights and failed to disclose them.

They also said Easley's campaign illegally solicited $9,000 in donations for the state Democratic Party, while promising that the money would be funneled back to Easley's committee. The party is forfeiting that money.

Local legend has it that the plant closed in the 1920s after the owner was found hanging in the plant.

Mayor Eulis Willis of Navassa, who wrote a book about the Brunswick County town’s history, did a little research and found there was at least a little truth to the story. However, it doesn’t look as if anybody was hanged there.

The Carroll Police Department received a call about two men in black face and quickly pulled over the two in their car a couple blocks from the apartment building. They were immediately arrested on 2nd degree attempted robbery and unlawful imitation of Al Jolson.
