Although municipalities can’t ban video gaming facilities outright, local governments can regulate the businesses.
Whiteville became the latest city to do just that Tuesday, as the city council voted unanimously to strictly limit where Internet cafes and gambling centers can open within the city.
City Planner Lainie Johnston presented the board with an amendment to the city’s planning and zoning ordinance that defines Internet cafes and gambling centers, and limits their hours of operation and locations.
